Details: Anugoonj – the Annual Cultural Festival of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was initiated by the University in the year of 1999. This cultural festival is organized in the month of February every year. Around 120 affiliated institutes of the university participate in the festival.
Anugoonj – an event,where all the affiliated institutes and University School of Studies of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University assemble to enjoy, participate and have a gala time together. A fest, by the students, for the students and of the students.Renowned artists and academicians inaugurate the festival every year. Padmabhushan Shri Raja Radha Reddy, Padmashree Pt. Bhajan Sopori renowned Santoor maestro, Smt. Uma Sharma, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Mohanveena maestro and first Grammy Award winner Pandmashree Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, are to name few. More than 40,000 students of University and affiliated institutes gathered with great enthusiasm to witness the greatest event of the university. They actively participate in more than 30 different events in the annual festival. The Indian Vocal, Folk Dance, Debate, Rangoli, Mono Acting, Classical Dance, Street Play, Creative Writing are few of them. The different cultural divisions of Doordharshan and other renowned cultural organizations provide the judges who give their verdict and judge the participants fairly.
Eminent Kuchipudi dancer, Padma Bhushan Raja Reddy, exhorted the students to present to the world the greatness and richness of Indian culture in all its varied forms. As the chief guest at the third Anugoonj Youth Festival of the University, he asked the students to reject the negative influences of the western society and take pride in the unique and rich Indian cultural values.He cited several instances where he was amazed at the inquisitiveness of foreigners about the intricacies and the philosophy of Indian music and dances. He said that it was unfortunate that music and dance lovers abroad are getting Indianised while our own youth are unaware of the greatness and vastness of our culture.
Explaining the spiritual foundations of Indian dances, he said that during the Treta Yuga, when the people had gone wayward, Lord Brahma created the fifth Veda, the Natya Veda, which is reflected in the Natya Shastra.
On the last day of the festival we invite a star celebrity to perform in front of the students. Various artists like Euphoria Group, Mr. Shiv Mani, Mr. Sukhbir, Aryans Group, Indian Ocean Group, Aryan’s Group, Mr. Ashok Masti, Mr. Sarabjeet Singh Chima, have performed and lived up to the expectations of the students.
The underlying aim of this youth cultural festival has always been to promote the creativity and talent of the students. Far from the muddle crowd, the students remain in their own world of fun, music and dance and enjoy every moment of Anugoonj, the most awaited event of the year and pride of the GGSIPU.
