One of the biggest cultural festivals in the country, Saarang is truly a celebration of all that young India stands for – with culture, colour and mirth running throughout. These four days and five nights of Saarang make for the experience of a lifetime. Saarang’s history runs parallel to that of the institute as it nears forty years of existence, both as Mardi Gras and Saarang. Throughout it has stood for that which, for most of us, makes life truly worth living. This year, it is only set to get bigger.

This year will see Saarang have a larger festival area, , bigger professional shows and plenty of highlights.The participation base, which largely comprises students and young professionals between the ages of 15 and 35, is sure to see an increase.

Set against a sprawling campus, heavily foliaged and green, Saarang is not merely IIT Madras’ annual festival- it is a monument. A monument to the spirits of the tens of thousands who attend or participate in it every year; a monument polished ceaselessly by another thousand strong, determined to achieve what the year before did- greatness. A monument marked by splendor of such force that it overwhelms, as any of its victims will attest to with enthusiasm. A footprint on history, much like any sentient life- an intangible something that grows with each passing day.

Distinguished by its unique mix of offbeat and cultural events that include professional performances by reputed artistes, Saarang always has something for everyone. It acts as a soothing elixir of vibrancy in a hopelessly practical world, like the fine shades of a rainbow on a warm blue afternoon. Saarang is not merely an event- it is an experience; of the multitudes of human emotion, like the tapestry of an intensely vivid dream, of the joy of madness, like frolicking children on infinite meadows.

Five days, of the stuff dreams are made of. And this year, it just got a whole lot more personal. Saarang 2010 is about you, for the monument is only as strong as its foundation stone.
